This page answers the things people actually write in about. If your problem is not here, or the answer here does not fix it, email us and a person will pick it up:
How do I get into the app?
Access usually comes from a registration code given to you by your church. If you lead a group, we may instead have set your account up for you by hand — see the next section. There is nothing to buy inside the app.
Registering with a code takes three steps:
- Your church code. Enter the code in the Registration code field and tap Send My Code.
- Check your email. We email you an 8-digit confirmation code. Type it into the Confirmation code field and tap Verify. The code is good for 10 minutes — the screen counts it down for you.
- Set up your account. Your name, phone number, date of birth and a password. You must be 13 or older. If that email address already has an account, we skip the password and simply add your church's program to the account you already have.
If you do not have a registration code, we cannot issue you one — your church does. Ask your group leader, or ask the church office that signed you up. If you paid the church and were never sent a code, email us with your name and the date you paid and we will chase it for you.
If the code is refused, check it against the message the church sent you. Codes are letters and numbers with no hyphens, and they are case-insensitive. A code that has already been used, has expired, or has been replaced by a newer one will say so on screen.
An administrator set up my account for me
If you lead a group, we may have created your account before the program started. Somebody entered your name, email address, phone number and date of birth, set a first password, and gave it to you.
- Sign in with your email address and that password. There is no registration code to enter and no confirmation email to wait for — the account is ready.
- Replace that password. Until you do, the person who set it knows it, could sign in as you, and could delete the account — the password is what confirms a deletion. Sign out first, then use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen. That is the only route that also ends a session somebody else may already be holding; changing it from inside the app leaves other sessions alone, on purpose, so that changing your password does not sign you out of the phone in your hand. The section below — *I can't sign in, or I've forgotten my password* — walks through both.
- Replacing it does not put a system administrator out of reach, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise. A system administrator can change the email address on an account — any account, including one whose password you chose yourself — and the code that sets a new password follows the address. Nobody has to know your password to do that. What stands against it: only a system administrator can, church staff cannot, we check who is asking before we change anything, and every change is written down with both addresses masked. The section *The email address on my account is wrong* sets out all of it.
- If the password does not work, use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we will email a code to the address on your account.
- You will not be in a group at first. We put you in the queue instead, and somebody places you. If you are meant to lead a particular group, tell whoever set you up — they place you and hand the group over as two separate steps.
The confirmation email never arrived
This is where most people get stuck, so read all of this before writing to us.
- Check your spam or junk folder first. The email comes from an automated sender and lands there more often than anywhere else.
- Check which address it went to. The confirmation code goes to the address your church has on its list for you, not necessarily the one you would have chosen. The screen shows you a masked version of it, something like a•••@e•••.com, so you can tell which mailbox to open. If that masked address is not one you can open, starting over will not help — every new code goes to the same place. Read *The email address on my account is wrong* below and write to us instead.
- If the 10 minutes ran out, tap Start over with a different code, enter your registration code again and we will send a fresh one. There is a 60-second wait before that control becomes available, so a mistyped code cannot flood your inbox.
- After five wrong tries a code is locked and you will need a new one. Start over as above.
If none of that works, email admin@challengeyourfaith.com with the email address you are trying to register and the registration code you were given, and we will sort it out by hand.
I can't sign in, or I've forgotten my password
You can reset it yourself. Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen, enter the email address on your account, and we will send you a code.
- The email contains an 8-digit code. Type it into the app on the next screen. The subject line carries the code too, so you can often read it without opening the email.
- The code goes to the address on your account. If nothing arrives, check your spam or junk folder first, then check the address the screen reads back to you — it repeats what you typed, and a typo is usually visible there. The screen says a code is on its way if that address has an account, and it says that whether the address has an account or not, deliberately, so that nobody can use it to test who has an account here. So no error does not mean you typed the right address.
- One of our system administrators can change which address that is. We do it to correct an address that was typed wrong, and it is the only way an address ever gets corrected — see *The email address on my account is wrong* below. It matters here because the reset code follows the address: change the address and you have changed where the code goes.
- The code works once and lasts 10 minutes. If yours has expired, tap Send a new code. There is a 60-second wait before that becomes available.
- Choose a password with at least 8 characters, including an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a special character. The screen shows you a live checklist as you type.
- If you were signed out when you started, resetting signs you out everywhere else too. That is deliberate: if you are resetting because someone else may know your password, this is what removes their access. If you were already signed in on the device you are using, you stay signed in there. The screen tells you which happened. What it ends is the access of anybody who knows your password. It does not help if the address on your account is one somebody else can open, because they can simply ask for a code of their own — the section below is the one you want.
You can also change your password while signed in. On a computer, open Me and use Account → Password. On a phone, sign out and use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen — the same code arrives either way.
If you are being told your registration is already complete, that means the account exists — you are on the sign-in screen you want, and the password is the only thing in your way. Reset it as above.
⚠️ One thing to know if you are part-way through registering: the 8-digit confirmation code we email you and the 8-digit password reset code are the same code underneath, so asking for one replaces the other. If you are waiting on a confirmation code to finish registering, finish that first. Your church's registration code is a different thing and is not affected.
If none of that works, email admin@challengeyourfaith.com, say which email address the account uses, and we will sort it out by hand. Write from the address on your account if you can — it saves us a step. If you cannot open that mailbox at all, do not try. Write from any address you can open, and read the next section first.
The email address on my account is wrong
Every code we email you goes to an address we hold, and we hold it in two places. The confirmation code you need to finish registering goes to the address on your church's registration record. The password reset code goes to the address on your account. They are normally the same address, and when we correct a wrong one we move both. If the address we hold is one you cannot open, none of the self-serve routes on this page can reach you, and no screen in the app will tell you why.
Write to us from any address you can actually open. Do not try to write from the broken one; that is the whole problem, and we do not need you to. Email admin@challengeyourfaith.com and tell us:
- Your full name and the name of your church.
- The address that is on the account, if you know it. On a computer, open Me and use Account → Email. On a phone there is no screen you can open to check it — the only phone screen that names it is the one you reach after typing a reset code, which is no help when the address is the thing that is wrong. If all you have is a masked version a screen showed you, something like a•••@e•••.com, send that.
- The address you want instead. Read it back to yourself before you send it.
Only a system administrator can change it. Church staff cannot, and there is no control in the app that lets you do it yourself. Neither can your group leader — unless that person is also one of our administrators, because the power follows the person and not the role.
Expect us to check who you are before we do it. Here is the reason, plainly: the address on your account is where a password reset code goes, so whoever can open that mailbox can ask for a code and set a new password. Moving the address moves who can get into the account. That is not something we do because an email asked us to, and the administrator who makes the change has to record how they checked it with you.
Once we have made the change:
- Nothing is sent to the new address to test it. Nobody has to type a code to prove they can read it — we change it on the administrator's word and the account answers to it at once. If the address you gave us is wrong too, the problem moves with it, so read it back to us carefully.
- It corrects the address and nothing else. It sets no password, finishes no half-finished registration and opens no door. If you already have an account, use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen afterwards and the code will reach you. If you never finished registering, start again with your church's registration code.
- It signs nobody out. Every session already signed in to the account stays signed in, including one somebody else is holding. If that worries you, change the password as well — sign out first, then use Forgot password?, because that is the route that ends other sessions.
- It covers every program you are registered in, all of them or none. If the address you asked for already belongs to another account, or to somebody else's registration, nothing moves at all and we will write back and say so.
- It does not touch what you have paid. A payment record keeps the address that was used when you paid.
- We write down that it happened, with who made the change and when. Both addresses are stored masked rather than written out.
How do I join or change my group?
You are not put into a group when you register. Someone from your church usually places you, but you can also do it yourself.
- If you are not in a group yet, the Today screen shows a No group card. Tap Join or create a group.
- If you are already in one, open the Group tab and tap the people icon at the top right of the chat header.
That screen is called Your group and it gives you three ways to move:
- Your groups — every group you belong to. Tap one to switch to it. The one you are on is marked On. Each row has a Leave control.
- Join a group — if a leader gave you an invite code, enter it here and tap Join group.
- Create a group — you lead the group you make, and you get an invite code to share. Groups are small on purpose.
Your church places you in a group when you register. If you want to move to a different one, ask your group leader or your church — they can give you an invite code, or move you across themselves.
You can belong to more than one group and switch between them whenever you like. Leaving a group does not delete your account or your streak.
How do I report a message or a person?
A message. Tap the ⋯ in the small strip beneath the message, or press and hold the message itself. Choose Report message, pick one of the seven reasons, add anything the reviewer should know, and tap Send report.
A person. Open the Group tab and tap the people icon at the top right of the chat header. That is your group's roster, headed Your group. Tap the ⋯ at the end of their row — the row itself is not tappable — and the menu offers Block followed by their name, Report a message, and, if you lead the group, Remove from group. Removing someone also bars them from rejoining that group, and it will not act on one of our administrators — only another administrator can remove or bar an administrator that way.
Report a message on that menu files nothing by itself. Reports are always filed against a specific message, so it takes you back to the chat thread, and you report the message there the way described above.
The person you report is not told who reported them, and if they are one of the people who review reports, their own review screen hides your name, the description you typed, and the note written when the report is closed. In the alert email that reaches our moderation inbox, the line that would name you reads the same on every one of those emails, and what you typed is not in the email at all; it still tells a moderator that a report exists, which group it is in, the reason and the time, so that it can be picked up inside 24 hours. The Community Standards set out exactly what is hidden and what is not. Reporting is not a strike against you.
Every report is reviewed and acted on within 24 hours. Your group's leaders and our administrators are notified the moment a report is filed, and a report about a leader goes to our administrators directly. We may remove the content, remove the member from the group, or suspend or terminate the account. See the Community Standards for what is and is not allowed.
If something is urgent, or the report controls do not cover it, email admin@challengeyourfaith.com. If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first. In the United States you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
How do I block someone?
The control carries their name, so for a member called Marcus it reads Block Marcus.
From a message. Tap the ⋯ beneath any of their messages, or press and hold it. Choose Block Marcus, then confirm with Block.
From the roster. Open the Group tab, tap the people icon at the top right of the chat header, tap the ⋯ at the end of their row, and choose Block Marcus.
Blocking works both ways: you stop seeing their messages, past and new, and they stop seeing yours. Their profile photo is hidden from you as well, and yours from them — each of you sees the other's initial instead (a photo already loaded on their device, or on another device of yours, can take up to an hour to go). Neither of you is notified, neither of you leaves the group, and nobody else in the group is affected. The one exception is a reported message: whoever reviews that report — your group's leaders, our administrators and the church staff we authorise — can read that one message even if one of them has blocked you, and for church staff that holds while a report on it is open. Blocking hides messages and profile photos — it does not remove a person from a group. If someone needs removing, report them instead.
To undo it, go to Me → Blocked Members and tap Unblock beside their name.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Me → Delete Account. The screen lists exactly what will be removed before you confirm, and asks for your password so that nobody can delete your account from an unlocked phone.
Deleting removes:
- Your profile, your streak and every check-in you have logged.
- Every message you have sent in your groups, and the photos, videos and files you have shared.
- Your profile photo, if you have added one.
- Your notification settings and this device's push registration.
The screen also tells you what happens to any group you lead — leadership passes to the next member, or the group is deleted if you are its only member — and warns you that your church registration code is used up. If you want to come back afterwards, your church has to issue you a new one.
This happens immediately and cannot be undone. There is no grace period and no restore. If you are not sure, write to us first.
Billing
Nothing is sold inside the app. There is no purchase, no subscription and no payment of any kind in the iOS app, and no way to buy access from it.
Payment happens in one of two places, and neither of them is here:
- Through a church. Your church runs its own registration page at challengeyourfaith.com. You either pay the church's program fee there — currently $99 — or the church gives you a code. Either way the money is the church's, paid into the church's own payment account. You pay Challenge App LLC nothing, and the church handles refunds under its own policy — so ask your church, not us. What we are responsible for is getting you into the app.
If you bought a subscription from us on the web in the past, email admin@challengeyourfaith.com and we will change or cancel it by hand. We changed payment processors after those subscriptions were sold, so "Manage subscription" in the app may not reach yours, and deleting your account may not stop it — write to us instead and we will confirm when it is cancelled. We find your payments from the account itself and not from your email address, so an address we corrected for you does not lose them — and does not change them either: a payment record keeps the address that was used when you paid. Our Terms of Use is the authority on all of this, and it is where the price is stated.
For anything about a payment — a charge you do not recognise, a refund, or a church fee that was never credited — email admin@challengeyourfaith.com.
